Thank you for your interest in the Hollis Grade School Drama Club! 2023-24 is our debut year, and we are looking forward to getting started!
Meet your director:
Kayti Kawachi is an established Hawk Mom; she is the current president of the Parents Club and has been Vice President for 4 years before that. Kayti grew up in the theatre, raised by her mother, who taught performance classes at the U of I.
Children’s theatre is fun and teaches life skills like creative problem-solving, teamwork, memory building, improvisational skills, public speaking, and more. Kayti taught after-school drama at 2 schools with the Peoria Park District for a year, directed children’s theatre in Urbana, IL, and has several years of experience as a recreational leader for an after-school program. Combining her knowledge with her love for the stage and her Hawk Pride made this a natural choice to add a new club to our amazing school and offer more arts!
The plan:
We will play improv games for the first few weeks and learn basic theatre principles. Kayti wants to gauge the group dynamic, number, and experience before determining a script to work on. The goal will be to have a show in the Spring! When we get closer, there will be more rehearsal times needed. We will send information home as well as make updates here. We will also have a discord server for additional communication.
Who can participate:
Any Hollis Student grades 1-8!
For more information, please email Kayti at kaytikawachi@gmail.com.
